Foundation Feast West

The second Feast of the season was held at Club 86 in Geneva, New York.  This wonderful central location complimented by the great food, super service and local wines was wonderful. Those who joined in the festivities were an amazing group of agriculture education supporters.  The reception was enhanced with tastings by Muranda Cheese Company, Anthony Road Wine Company, Lake Drum Brewing, Cabot Cheese, Shirk Meats, Catherine Valley Crackers, and the wonderful selection presented by Club 86.

Kim Skellie, Ontario County Farm Bureau president, welcomed the group with a bit of agricultural trivia and warmed things up for our pre-dinner MC, David Fisher, Chair of the Foundation Board and NYFB President.  Following an invocation by Jim Peck, an Ontario County Farm Bureau Board member and expert of beautiful blessings, and a heartwarming toast by Karen Cartier, a member of the Foundation board, all enjoyed a fabulous meal. County Farm Bureau supporters included Seneca, Schuyler, Ontario, and Yates.

The post-dinner MC, John Sorbello, a Foundation and NYFB Board member, introduced Earl LaGrou, Vice President and CEO of Lamb & Webster, the event’s premier sponsor, added to the after-dinner message with his testimonial to Foundation support.  Lamb & Webster was presented with a Foundation Childress Print which noted its tremendous support for agricultural education.  The program included an update for Foundation programs, with a focus on the continuing Food & Farm Experience. The Experience will provide tools, resources, contacts and information for counselors and advisors of middle and high school students about education and careers in agriculture, to be held October 17-19 in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The next matter of business was several presentations honoring Skip Jensen, the New York Farm Bureau regional field staff representative, who will be retiring soon.  He was roasted and toasted!  His support for the Feast was noted, and his continuing role in future Feasts confirmed.

The evening wrapped up with a raffle drawing.  The grand prize was a Childress framed print, plus 12 New York “local” commodity collections, and gifts from Red Jacket Orchards, Merritt Winery, Muranda Cheese, and Palladino & Carley Farms.  Thank you to everyone who helped in so many ways, and to the many supporters and sponsors.  From the “tasting” reception to our Champagne toast and the wonderful dinner, which showcased many local partners, including the numerous wineries, distilleries, and breweries who donated product, to the dessert finale, which included New York peaches courtesy of Jim Bittner, and some special port and ice wine.
