The first Feast of the season was held at The Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen, New York. The wonderful lakeside location complimented by the locally sourced food and local wines were wonderful, and the 120 people who joined in the festivities, were an amazing group of agriculture education supporters.
Nicole Rawleigh, the Schuyler County Farm Bureau President, welcomed the group and John Sorbello, the Vice Chairman of the Foundation was our Master of Ceremonies. We were also welcomed by NYFB Vice President Eric Ooms. Following an invocation by Skip Jensen, NYFB Sr. Field Advisor, and a heartwarming toast by Lindsay Wickham, NYFB Area Field Supervisor. Everyone enjoyed a fabulous meal complimented by many local products. County Farm Bureau full-table supporters included Chemung, Schuyler, Tioga, and Yates.
Earl LaGrou, VP & CEO of Lamb & Webster, our Premier Sponsor, added to the after-dinner message with his testimonial to Foundation support. Mike Spaulding of Nationwide Insurance added his positive comments, as the evening proceeded to an introduction of significant 2017 Foundation Programs, including the Food & Farm Experience, which will provide tools, resources, contacts and information for counselors and advisors of middle and high school students about education and careers in agriculture.
The evening wrapped up with the raffle drawing, which reached an all-time high for sales, our grand prize Childress framed print, “Man in Training” was won by Ashur Terwilliger Chemung County Farm Bureau President. Fred Wickham won a basket full of goat milk soap and lotion products made and donated by “Our Five Acre Homestead” in Newark Valley, and a $50 gift certificate from Frontenac Vineyard & Estate Winery and the 12 New York “local” Commodity Collections, plus much more.
Thank you to everyone who helped in so many ways and to our many supporters and sponsors. From our “tasting” reception with local cheeses, crackers and meats to our Champagne toast and our wonderful dinner, which showcased many local partners, including the numerous wineries, distilleries, and breweries who donated product, to the desert finale, a trio of desserts to compliment the Riesling Ice Wine with a final taste of local Port and Sherry!
