Foundation Fundraising Feast North – An Amazing Evening!

The 2017 Feast North Regional Feast was held on Friday, May 19th, at an exceptional and one-of-a-kind venue, the Barn at the Tailwater Lodge in Altmar, New York.  Tailwater Lodge is a hotel, corporate retreat, and fishing resort set on 35 acres, with riverfront access along the Salmon River, in the Town of Albion in Oswego County.  The closure of an elementary school in the APW school district left a vacant building on a prime piece of real estate. The building needed a new owner with insight into what it could become.  The Woodbine Group, who has a history of repurposing buildings, offered the solution.

They found the closed school and saw its potential. Located in an area of Oswego County known for outdoor sports — fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling — it was the perfect spot for a luxury resort. In addition to the guest rooms, the renovations included a grand new entrance, preservation of the wood gymnasium floor in the bar/restaurant and a tackle shop in the lobby. A banquet center was added, carrying the title of “The Barn”, which was a perfect fit for our North Feast fundraiser!

The guests enjoyed some New York cheese, specially prepared appetizers, while socializing within the atmosphere of the Adirondack design of the room.  Then, all enjoyed a full three-course feast featuring a superb dual entrée paired with a selection of New York State wines and a special dessert.  The beautiful and unique venue certainly enhanced our opportunities to connect and support agriculture.

More than 41 sponsors (an increase from 2016) worked with the Foundation for the 2017 Feasts, including our Premier Sponsor, Lamb & Webster; our Feast Partners, Nationwide Insurance, Farm Credit East, and Robert and Roberta Call; and our Feast Advocates, McCormick Farms, Inc. and Melissa Mirabile of UBS.  A full listing of sponsors and donors is now available.

Donated local products, raffle prizes, and a collection of wines courtesy of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, added a great deal to the spirit of the evening.  Eric Behling, Vice President of Oswego County Farm Bureau provided a local welcome and turned the program over to our Foundation Chairman, David Fisher, who introduced guests and staff.  Special guests included Richard Ball, Commissioner of New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets, and Assemblywoman Addie Jennie from the 116th District.  The invocation was offered by Foundation Board member, farmer and retired ag teacher, Mike Settle, and a toast given by Board member, Karen Cartier from Dairy Farmers of America.

Our thanks to everyone!  We hope that you will consider attending one of our 2018 Fundraising Feasts, which I am certain, will once again highlight New York’s very distinct flavor.  It is always an evening that everyone enjoys, which provides the needed funding for important agricultural education we do.
