2017 Foundation Golf Classic a Success!

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University in Ithaca  was a busy place on Sept. 12 as players registered for the 16th annual NYFB Foundation Golf Classic and received a special Foundation fleece highlighting our Food & Farm Experience; a 4-pak of Hazlitt’s Cider Tree and balls, plus so much more!

The registration area was busy as our golfers enjoyed the putting contest preliminary rounds, grabbed a morning treat while meeting and greeting old and new friends, or warmed up at the driving range.  Lunch plus wonderful treats provided by Country Wagon Produce, apples from Reisinger’s Apple Country in Watkins Glen, and fresh picked grapes courtesy of Rich Jerome of Naples, NY. The golfing experience was totally delightful; the course in excellent condition, the food plentiful, varied and delicious, the New York beverages of all types thirst-quenching, and the camaraderie and the courtesy of all who tended to the golfers’ needs during the full day was courteous and attentive, as all joined in a day of agricultural education support.

The Classic is the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser, supporting efforts to educate one and all about agriculture.  Our top tier sponsors included Amberg’s Nursery, Nationwide Insurance, Farm Credit East, Long Island Farm Bureau, Broome County Farm Bureau, Bond, Schoeneck & King Attorneys, Hazlitt’s Cider Tree and New York Farm Bureau Member Services.   The net proceeds will be allocated to a variety of Foundation programs and projects.  A full listing of our many sponsors and donors is available.

The tournament united golfers from across the state.  Those receiving prizes included the top two best team scores, 1st for the Blue Flight went to Broome County Farm Bureau and Red Flight to the Cornell Foursome; 2nd for Blue Flight was won by the Amberg’s Inc.and Red Flight to the NY Wine & Grape Foundation Team; Closest to the Pin, Dave Hodge/DFA; Closest to the Line, Jeff Kirby/NYFB; and our Putting Contest Winner, Dan Easton/DFA.  The Most Honest Team was won by the Country Combo Team and the Top Farm Bureau Team was the Schuyler County Farm Bureau Team who won a foursome of golfing including greens fees and carts which was donated Courtesy of the Robert Trent Jones Course. Skins went to the NYFB/Nationwide Team, Wickham’s Tango Oaks Farm, and the New York Wine & Grape Foundation Team (2).

Thank you so much to all of our sponsors and donors who helped to make this Golf Classic a success!  Without your support, we would not be able to educate the public about the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.
